North Carolina man sentenced to prison after botched attempt to dispose of cocaine in toilet
A Fuquay-Varina man linked to a major drug trafficking operation in the Raleigh area has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Daniel Bubar announced.
David Weaver, 46, pleaded guilty in November 2024 to drug distribution charges stemming from a 2022 investigation. Authorities say Weaver was part of a larger organization responsible for distributing firearms, marijuana, and large quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine.
The case was investigated by the Raleigh Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). On May 23, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Weaver’s Raleigh residence. Prosecutors said he made a last-minute attempt to destroy evidence, but officers encountered him as he exited the bathroom after a failed effort to flush cocaine down the toilet.
During the search, investigators seized:
- An undisclosed amount of cocaine and crack cocaine
- Marijuana
- A loaded 9mm pistol
- 102 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- Over $11,000 in cash
Weaver was charged with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge James Denver sentenced him to 138 months in prison.
