Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Raleigh and Central North Carolina as Hazardous Conditions Approach

Raleigh, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Raleigh and central North Carolina as hazardous conditions are expected to develop over the next 24 hours. The advisory, in effect from this morning until 10 AM Thursday, covers areas from Forsyth to Wake counties, including Greensboro, Durham, and Raleigh.

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a mix of sleet and snow, with accumulations of up to two inches and the potential for light ice glazing. The advisory warns that roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, could become slick and hazardous, creating difficult conditions for commuters during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning rush hours. The NWS advises residents to exercise caution when traveling and to check road conditions via 511 for the latest updates.

While the weather may cause disruptions, the forecast offers some relief. The snow is expected to taper off by early tomorrow, with skies clearing by afternoon. Temperatures will rise to around 35°F, though wind chills could make it feel as cold as 15°F. Winds will gradually calm by evening.

Looking ahead, Raleigh can expect a warming trend by the weekend, with sunny skies on Friday and mostly sunny conditions on Saturday. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to reach 40°F on Friday and 46°F on Saturday. The NWS encourages residents to stay updated on changing weather conditions by tuning into NOAA Weather Radio or visiting their website.
